Riverine Stewardship Program: Spring 2025 Final Grant Awards

The California Department of Water Resources’ Riverine Stewardship Program (RSP) has awarded the City of Berkeley and their nonprofit project partner, Friends of Five Creeks, $500,000 to restore Codornices Creek.

RSP holds project solicitation periods on a rolling application cycle, which began in June 2022. Concept proposals are accepted monthly, and full applications are accepted quarterly by the closing dates of February 28, May 30, August 31, and November 30 of each year. Concept proposals that met eligibility were reviewed and invited for full applications to be submitted.

These full applications were scored, and the draft awards were announced for a public comment period that closed on April 4, 2025. No comments were received, and the final award is listed below.

The project will restore about 1,000 square feet of riparian creek habitat in Codornices Creek, which currently has eroding and undercut banks. The project goals are to repair the banks, restore natural creek function, protect drainage outfalls with gravel and native plants, enhance channel complexity and habitat for steelhead and other native fish, and provide outreach and educational events for the public at the restored creek.
