Sherman Island Fish Screen Evaluation Project

Fish screens help protect endangered fish species that may be harmed or stressed in the water delivery process. We use fish screens in several locations throughout the Sacramento San-Joaquin Delta, including Sherman Island. The Sherman Island Fish Screen Evaluation Project provides data about fish screen performance and effectiveness. We manage the project in conjunction with partners at state, federal and local conservation agencies. We formed a multidisciplinary technical team that included staff from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, National Marine Fisheries Service, Solano County Water Agency, and Suisun Resource Conservation District. This program fulfills the requirements of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as a part of the California Endangered Species Act Incidental Take Permit issued to DWR.

This map shows the locations of the Sherman Island Water Diversions Fish Screen Evaluation.  The evaluation was conducted at Sites 2, 6, 12, and 13.  All 13 diversions were screened as mitigation for the Department of Water Resources’ Temporary Barriers program.
