Green Sturgeon Laboratory Study

Fish Science Building at DWR

Fish Science Building at DWR Skinner Fish Facility. DWR/2015

Green Sturgeon are native to California and migrate from saltwater and brackish water to freshwater to spawn. Green Sturgeon are federally identified as a threatened species. We are actively studying their behavior at the Skinner Fish Facility to develop management practices that will improve the species’ survival. The Green Sturgeon Laborartory Study also examines the risk of predation on juvenile fish. This study is an important part of our compliance with the requirements of the 2009 National Marine Fisheries Services Biological Opinion to improve the survival of endandered fish species.
