Water Shortage Vulnerability Explorer Tool Overview and Tutorial – July 21, 2026

As part of its technical assistance for SB 552 implementation, DWR has updated and continues to maintain the Water Shortage Vulnerability Scoring and Tool. This resource provides foundational statewide data and information to help counties assess drought and water shortage vulnerability for domestic wells and state small water systems.

 

During this meeting, DWR will provide an overview of the tool's features, underlying data, and updates to the scoring methodology and tool since the previous update in 2024, including new indicator metrics, a new physical vulnerability index score, and social vulnerability indices. DWR will also demonstrate how to navigate and apply the tool to common use cases and offer opportunities for participants to ask questions and discuss potential uses.
