California Native American Day

Join the Department of Water Resources in celebrating the 55th annual Native American Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the west steps of the State Capitol. The event honors the valuable historical and cultural contributions made by Native Americans in California.

This year, under the theme of "Stand Strong Together," the Native American community will celebrate the importance of communication and cooperation between California Native American Tribal communities and State Government. At the Cultural Heritage Pavilion, leading California Native cultural arts practitioners will demonstrate cultural practices and Indigenous California languages, including tule reed design and basketry art, and the gift of acorns. Additionally, there will be a ceremony honoring elders and veterans and the posting of colors by the Tule River Color Guard.

Native American Day is free, open to the public, and is presented by the California Tribal Chairperson’s Association and sponsored by Assembly Member James Ramos, District 40, San Bernardino County. Representatives from state, federal and Tribal organizations will be at the event to provide information on their work.
