FERC Relicensing for South SWP Hydropower Facilities

On August 1, 2016, DWR and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power submitted Pre‐Application Documents to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for South State Water Project (SWP) Hydropower and the Devil Canyon Project. This marked the first key milestone in initiating the formal FERC relicensing process for DWR’s West and East Branch South SWP Hydropower facilities, whose current FERC license expires on January 31, 2022. The West Branch facilities include Quail Lake, Lower Quail Canal, Peace Valley Pipeline Intake Embankment, Peace Valley Pipeline, William E. Warne Powerplant, Pyramid Dam, Pyramid Lake, Angeles Tunnel, Castaic Powerplant, Elderberry Forebay Dam, Elderberry Forebay, two transmission lines and recreation facilities at Quail Lake and Pyramid Lake. The East Branch facilities include Cedar Springs Dam, Silverwood Lake, San Bernardino Tunnel, Devil Canyon Powerplant, two afterbays and recreation facilities at Silverwood Lake.
