Welcome to the Safe Drinking Water Program web page. The program provides funding to test new water treatment technologies that remove specific contaminants from the State's drinking water supply. Funding is also available to communities that plan to disinfect drinking water with ultraviolet technology or ozone treatment methods.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants are public water systems under the regulatory jurisdiction of the State Water Resources Control Board and other public entities.

Eligible Projects?

Chapter 6(b) - Pilot and demonstration projects for treatment or removal of the specific contaminants.

Chapter 6(c) - Drinking water disinfecting projects using ultraviolet technology and ozone treatment.

Available Funds?

Total Program Funds: $50 million, appropriated through the Legislature.

Funding 2015/2016: $5 million available in this cycle for the two subchapters combined. Applicants may need to match the State grant amount depending on their disadvantaged status or deemed a Small Water System.
